During my website re-launch and a ton of creative slumps, my go-to creative outlets were podcasts and books.
To keep this short and sweet, here are 5 books helped completely shift my mindset in business, kept me on track and shed light and encouragement into my day to day.
A quick funny read with practical tips, Sophia discusses her journey as founder of NastyGal and how sometimes, being the 'rebel' and going against the grain can make for a pretty good success story.
2. YOU ARE A BADASS
After reading this book, I felt like I had the power to do anything. I felt like Jen Sincero was talking directly to me throughout this book, giving amazing life advice to help shift your conscious and subconscious mindset to OWN your path, direction and lifestyle. Everyone's story is different, but Jen helps you think about what YOUR needs are to live your best life.
3. LEAN IN
You've heard it a million times I'm sure, but Sheryl Sandberg is just a bo$$. This book empowers women in every way possible, explaining practical tips on owning your place in the workplace through her personal stories and social experiments.
4. PEOPLE OVER PROFIT
Written by the co-founder of Sevenly, this quick read is a must for anyone starting a Do-Good business. This book provides great insight into the history of super successful businesses, not so successful ones, and how history truly does repeat itself in one massive cycle. But in order to stand out and make a difference, he offers practical tips on how to do business better and for good.
5. YES PLEASE
As a Parks and Rec. fanatic I read this entire book as Leslie Knope would and man I felt AMAZING. Amy's journey is hilarious, sad (at times), exciting, and truthful as she explains what it took to 'make it big' in the improv land, how she met and became bff's with some of our favorite actors and more. She also gives incredible advice about your career with witty analogies, mantras and practical tips.
VIRTUAL BOOK CLUB ALERT:
If you're interested in joining a virtual book club with an amazing business and life coach from the Tampa area, Laina Caltagirone, has recently started 'The Book Life" group on Facebook! Each month they'll announce a new book - all geared towards growth in life and business. At the end of the month, Laina will host a Google hangout with a guest to share insights and takeaways from the book.
As you can see, I'm all about stories from experience that give you a good laugh but ALSO have really practical advice on how to apply their principles to life and business. Take some time to read at LEAST one of these. You won't regret it.
